Nearly every college in America accepts the SAT or SAT Subject Tests as a part of its admissions process. That's why more than two million students take the SAT every year. SAT is the test used by most colleges to help decide whether to admit students or not (along with GPA, recommendations, etc.). Not all schools require the SAT (or ACT), but the great majority do.

SAT is offered 7 times a year, lasts for 3 hours and 45 minutes, and has 3 sections (math, reading, writing). It costs about $43 to take the test

You'll earn a score on each of 3 sections: SAT Critical Reading, SAT Math, and SAT Writing (the essay). Each is scored on a 200 to 800-point scale. The national average score per section is around 500

As we always mention Practice is important.
